BACKGROUND
Big Horn Wilderness Adventures is a Shell, WY outdoor adventure company. Our trips are based in or near the Big Horn Mountains and are centered primarily around horseback riding and camping. However, we also can arrange fishing, skiing/snowboarding, snowmobiling, rock climbing, fossil hunting, wildlife/nature viewing, hiking, biking, backpacking and/or river float trips.

Our combined past experiences have prompted us to share our excitement of the outdoors by leading explorations which will challenge the mind, body and spirit on a level which is comfortable for each individual ~ with a consistent and constant concern for safety. Our adventures provide experiences which might have been considered fascinating, but a little out of reach.

Whether sleeping in the comfort of the Beaver Creek Bed & Breakfast (currently closed for remodeling) or sleeping under the stars with meals over an open campfire and/or out of the chuck wagon, you will have a memorable adventure. We offer western-flavored guided outdoor experiences that offer new opportunities to grow and appreciate Wyoming landscapes and wildlife.

We offer our guests many "hands-on" activities. We are there to help and assist in every way ~ but each will care for his/her own horse, help set up camp, cook, cut and gather firewood and much more. All hands pitch in until the tasks are completed. Let us help you discover a new trust in your own unique abilities.

STAFF

The principals of BHWA include:

Ř       John & Julie Bilbrey ~ As lifelong ranchers, being around and on horses is second nature to them. Most of their lives have been spent working in production agriculture, especially with animals of which horses and cattle are their true passion. John has enjoyed many years as a rodeo pickup man. Julie has several years of experience as a wrangler with Powder River Wagon Trains & Cattle Drives and John has a perfect knack for matching the right horse to the unique skills of each rider. Julie, John and their teenage children, Jason and Jackee, are anxious to help you have the experience of a lifetime in the Bighorn Mountains – either on horseback, snowboards or snowmobiles!

Ř       Jeff & Barb McManus ~ Jeff and Barb, a husband and wife team, were each born into ranch life and raised with good riding horses. Jeff hailed from early years at The Padlock Ranch near Sheridan, Wyoming, just miles from where our rides will take place, while Barb brings Montana childhood experiences. Each has had a variety of horse related activities grace their lives. Jeff has ridden the area his entire life and has extensive knowledge of the geography. He is presently a brand inspector with the Wyoming Livestock Board and has worked for licensed Wyoming outfitters guiding trips in the Bighorn and Rocky Mountains, taking groups as small as three and as large as 130 on overnight wilderness trips. Both Jeff and Barb enjoy the outdoors and are students of the history of our area from the Mountain Man to the Cowboy. Jeff was involved in recreating the pony express rides through Wyoming and both are actively involved in the recreation of the mountain man way of life and the 1840’s fur trade era at “Rendezvous” across the West. Jeff has given talks at historic areas and museums while portraying, in authentic dress, the first National Park Ranger. He is a great storyteller and will be happy to relate some of his favorites and facts of history to you around the campfire.
